Housing
This refurbishment updates a small attic apartment in a 1973 building in Barcelona’s Vallcarca neighborhood, designed by José María y Lillo and recognized for its blue ceramic façades with mustard accents. The intervention preserves the building’s identity while adapting the layout for contemporary living.
A linear service strip organizes storage, kitchen, bathroom, and technical systems—the “minimum means to inhabit a place”—allowing the rest of the apartment to remain open, flexible, and fluid. Sliding panels and doors enable multiple spatial configurations, adapting the home to changing needs.
Material choices reinforce the dialogue between past and present: deep-blue ceramic tiles define the service strip, contrasting with large-format porcelain flooring, while the bathroom reinterprets the original palette in white with mustard details. Restored glass globes and repeated circular elements unify the space, creating continuity and a contemporary domestic atmosphere.
